I’ve been getting a bunch of clients reaching out to me about their dog marking inside the house or someone else’s house. It is a problem that many people have. I am glad to say that I didn’t have this problem with Mattie since it’s not an easy one to fix either and as a trainer it always leaves you in a bit of a conundrum. There is something new that has come out as a training aid and it is called a Belly Band or a Tinkle Belt (yes you read that one right..lol).
As ridiculous as the names may be, the concept is a good one and the band itself is an effective tool. The way it works is that when the dog goes to mark they end up getting wet; it is that wetness which deters them from continuing to pee and stops them mid stream. A great idea I got from a client is to apply half of a sanitary napkin on the band so that when your dog pees it will catch it. This will help to eliminate having to wash the band every time your dog has an accident.
